An LED (light emitting diode) is not really a bulb. LEDs are cool to the touch and can easily function for years. Because of that, solar LED lights don’t need the frequent replacement of traditional filament bulbs. They are perfect for use with solar powered lighting because they use very little power, which allows the solar light to stay illuminated longer with each charge.
What are solar LED lights
Although LEDs come in various colors (like amber, green and red, which are commonly used for electrical appliance and equipment displays, like your DVD player), the white color that is typically used for outdoor solar lighting tends toward the blue, or cool, end of the spectrum.
Often solar LED lights display in an outdoor lighting fixture includes built-in reflectors and prisms to boost the output. These are usually permanent components and cannot be changed later.
Since some people have strong preferences for cool or warm spectrum lighting, it’s a good idea to ask questions or read the manufacturer’s product description to make sure the light fixture you’re considering has the cool or warm light you prefer.
Ordinary LED lights are generally not as bright as lights powered by direct current. For instance, an average table lamp uses a bulb that gives off 60 watts of light. When you compare that with the average solar accent light, which gives off only 4 watts, it’s easy to see why outdoor solar lighting used to be limited to decorative lighting (like string lights, pathway lights, floating solar lights or solar rope lights).
However, the newest super-bright LEDs can be used to make floodlights that give off hundreds of watts. These lights are manufactured by combining several LEDs and configuring them with reflectors and special lenses.
Solar LED lights are powerful enough to illuminate a flagpole or to be used in a security light
These larger and more powerful LED outdoor solar lights use sealed lead-acid batteries for their backup system, instead of smaller AA rechargeable batteries.
Of course, advancements in solar lighting technologies are being made every day, so you can expect an even wider selection of brighter solar powered outdoor lighting products in the future.
